Questions and guides

Answers to common questions about working with the firm. For guidance on your specific situation, schedule a free consultation.

What does the first consultation cost?

There is no charge for an initial consultation, and inquiries submitted through this website are complimentary.

Who will handle my matter?

David M. Radner, personally, from beginning to end. An experienced team of legal assistants supports the work, but David is your attorney throughout.

How long does an estate plan take?

Timing depends on your circumstances, but a streamlined process allows many estate plans and probate filings to be prepared within days.

Do I need a will or a trust?

A will documents your wishes and is the only way to name a guardian for a minor child, but it passes through probate. A revocable living trust transfers property privately, without the delay and expense of probate. David can help you decide which fits your family.

How are fees determined?

Fees are reasonable and discussed openly. After your consultation, you will receive a clear explanation of the plan and the fee before any work begins.

Do you handle matters outside Oakland County?

Yes. David has been licensed in Michigan since 1985 and represents clients in probate courts and business matters throughout the state.

Guide: first steps after a loss

Take care of yourself and your family first. When you are ready: • Request several certified copies of the death certificate • Locate the original will or trust and keep it safe • Secure the home, vehicles, and mail • Do not distribute money or property until the estate is properly opened • Consult an attorney before paying creditors or closing accounts

Guide: what a complete estate plan includes

• A will, which is the only way to name a guardian for minor children • A revocable living trust, so property passes privately without probate • A financial durable power of attorney • A patient advocate designation for medical decisions • Beneficiary designations and property titling that match the plan
